The journey to Kho Tao was a little long from Ko Samet, but was well worth it!! We arrived on Kho Tao on Sun 12th Feb after a night of travelling and a few hours sat at the port, but we had pre booked accommodation in Bangkok as we got a good transport and accommodation deal, so it was great to arrive and not be looking around and pricing up places to stay. Our accommodation was at Lotus Mountain Resort, just a 2 min walk from the beach but far enough away from all the bars that it wasn't noisy at night etc. We went for Sairee beach area to stay and were really glad we did, it was definitely the nicest area on the island from what we saw. When we first arrived at our accommodation we killed 48 mossies in our room…honestly! There seemed to be some sort of weird infestation, yuk! So we quickly got moved rooms and that was much better haha!!!!
We spent 3 nights on Kho Tao, from Sun 12th Feb to Tuesday 15th Feb and absolutely loved loved loved it! Again, as is becoming tradition, we hired a scooter and zipped around the island exploring, the roads here are perfect for scooter riding in comparison to Ko Samet! The fire shows here on Kho Tao are just out of this world, we saw some in Fiji and were impressed with those, but these are on another level! Lotus Bar have shows every night at 9pm and so one night we went down and watched that (Valentines day actually) and sat in amazement as they threw and juggled fire, so amazing. Even little boys do it, we laughed thinking of the health and safety back home and that that could just never happen at home!! The other must do on Kho Tao is to go and see a lady boy show….so we did! O M G… it was the funniest and most hilarious thing we have seen in a long time! The men are dressed up as women, but honestly, some of them are so so lady like you would swear they are female. Some are actually really beautiful although some are still very manly looking! We got some hilarious photos at the end of the show, Andrew stood and got a phptot with the blonde beautiful one who I still think must be a girl! Good times! The beaches on Kho Tao, especially Sairee beach are beautiful and I 'enjoyed' (as much as you can) going for a few runs along the beach here at sunset (trying to lose traveling weight!!). The sunsets here have been stunning and we have just loved the choice of amazing food places here to eat at night. Lots have deals on and happy hours and so we worked our way around those quite merrily! Valentines day we went on a fab boat trip and snorkeled all day (actually I snorkeled so much I started to feel light headed hah!!). We visited lovely places and snorkeling spots, including shark bay - again no sharks though - errrr!!!!!!!! Koh Nang Yuan Island was one of the stops; a lovely small island with no roads or cars and kept spotlessly clean by the strict riles on what you can and can't bring onto the island there. It has a sand bar running across the length of the island, splitting in into two very picturesque snorkeling spots, just stunning.
Tomorrow we head to Kho Phangnan for the half moon party on the 15th Feb…we didn't fancy a full moon party and our dates don't really tally to allow us to see one so we think a half moon should be good to see…less crowds!
