Wayne's & Bonnie's Travels
After a trip with 8 hotels, 9 flights, and a 4,600 mile 14 day cruise, we are home.
Our flight from Buenos Aires did not leave until 9:00 PM and we were not scheduled to be picked up until 5:00 PM. We had planned to spend the day enjoying Buenos Aires for one more day. We went out for a walk after breakfast and heard the sound of drumbeats in the distance. We walked towards the sound and ran into a huge protest with streets being blocked. It seems that some welfare payments had been delayed. We started to get a little concerned and headed back to the hotel. When we heard loud bangs/pops going off, it sounded like gunfire. It was probably just fireworks but the crowd moved to only a block from the hotel and blocked the streets in the area. I contacted the tour company and requested that our transfer time be moved up. The crowd did move on and we were able to go back out for a walk to a pedestrian shopping area. By afternoon there was no sign of the protest. We got picked up at 3:00 and had 4 or 5 hours to kill at the airport. We had a leisurely meal at the airport (at a surprisingly good price) and the time went fast. The flights home were long but thankfully uneventful.
