Somehow this morning we woke up in Alaska. We spent the morning cruising down the Beagle Channel. Along the way we went by a series of five glaciers that reminded us so much of College Fiord in Alaska. The most spectacular was the Italian Glacier which dropped down a sheer cliff into the ocean. At the base were a large number of small icebergs, fortunately not too big to cause any problem.

We arrived in Ushuaia, Argentina around noon. It is a city of about 80,000 and is the southernmost city in the world. I had arranged for a tour to hike thru the Tierra del Fuego National Park for ourselves and 6 other Cruise Critic members. They met us at the pier at 12:30 and took us on the half hour ride to the park. We spent the next 3 to 4 hours hiking at 4 different areas in the park. The hiking was not strenuous and the views were wonderful. Our guide, Cecilia, was fun but her English was a bit limited. The sun only shines in Ushuaia on average 30 days a year. This was one of them. It was partly cloudy with comfortable temperatures. Late in the day we did get a brief very light shower – the weather changes fast here. After the tour we had time to wander around the town for a while. It is quite active with lots of stores and restaurants.
