The company (01Argentina) with whom we had booked the Iguazu Falls trip, had a 2 day special for Buenos Aires which included a Delta Tour (Tigre and San Isidro), an evening tango show and dinner, and a full day at an estancia (ranch). This morning was the Delta Tour. The Tigre River delta is the only delta in the world that empties into another river (the Rio de la Plata) rather than the ocean. The 1st stop was at San Isidro Station, a distinguished area that includes immense and well-preserved 18th century mansions alongside new and modern homes where the wealthiest families of the country reside. Next we went to Tigre port, where we went on the boat ride to view the Delta: It is a subtropical forest formed by thousands of small islands that can only be reached by water. There are homes located on the islands; some only shacks and others huge. They have electricity but must use bottled water. The afternoon was an appreciated period of rest.

We were scheduled to be picked up for the dinner and tango show in the hotel lobby at 8:00. Several other couples were also there to be picked up for various tango shows and one of them was going to the same one as us. One by one, they were picked up. When the couple going to the same show as us got picked up but they had no record of us, we started to get worried. The desk clerk at the hotel, Alexandro, was marvelous. He called the company and they told him that a van was on the way. Then they called back to say they could not send a van and we had to take a cab and they would pay for it. Alexandro called a cab for us and when it arrived he talked to the driver to make sure he understood that the tango show was to pay the fare. Once we got past that excitement, the rest of the evening was marvelous. We expected the dinner to be similar to what we used to find at dinner theaters; a mediocre meal or buffet. How wrong we were. We were able to order 7 different items off an extensive menu and everything was cooked hot and fresh. The steaks we had were at least as good as we had at the steak restaurant a few days ago. We totally enjoyed the show itself. It wasn't just dancing but also told a story and there was a live orchestra on a balcony above the stage. Our tickets include free tango lessons after the show. We were able to follow the basic steps but when the instructors started giving instructions in Spanish, we were not able to keep up but it was fun. It was a long evening - we got back to the hotel about 1:15 AM.
