We woke up at 7.30am this morning to get ready for our flight to Cuzco. We quickly packed up and went for breakfast. During this Didi called and we had a quick skype finding out Rohan was ill with foot and mouth. We were worried but Umang said he would be fine and it was nothing to worry about. We then had to end the call as our cab came.
We went to the airport with Luka and Valentina, a Slovienian couple who were heading to Cuzco too. We checked in and had to wait for the flight as it was delayed 30 minutes. But after that it was a quick hour flight. Upon landing we were immediately impressed by the surrounding scenery. It was sunny and we felt much more like we were in South America.
We had also now gone into the mountains and were 3000m above see level. This had a effect on us and we felt quite heavy and any exercise quickly took its toll.
Francis had arranged for someone to meet us at the airport and Alberto took us to downtown Cuzco and then gave us some cocoa tea which would help with the altitude sickness. He also explained some tour options for us and we decided to take a 2 day tour of the Sacred Valley and Machu Pichu. We then went to our hostel, pisko and soul, where we were told to relax and keep hydrated so that we could acustomise to the altitude.
We chilled out in the room and had another quick Skype with Didi and mummy who was leaving for India the next day. We then started to get hungry and decided to go to an Indian restaurant so Shivani could get some proper food. It had just started to rain but we went out anyway.
The place was called Maikhani and was run by the only Indians in Cuzco. They did a buffet for 15 soles which was satisfying though not great.
After the meal we went to find a cafe where could sit and have a drink. We walked round in the rain for a bit and then found a place near the main square where we had coffee and cake. We also checked the weather and realised it was going to rain for the next few days, we hoped this wouldn't spoil our excursions.
After our coffees we took a short walk around looking for a hoodie for Shivani. Everything was a north face ripoff and quite expensive. We did however pick up a small rucksack for 50 soles which would be useful for our overnight in Machu Pichu.
We then took the tough walk up the hill in the rain to our hostel. We were quite tired even though it was only 8pm, so got into bed to relax and internet a little.
