After not such a good nights sleep, we woke up and prepared ourselves for our mini trip. After a quick breakfast we were picked up and transported to another bus where we met the rest of our tour group, including Luka and Valentina, who had come with us from Lima.
We then headed up to the Sacred Valley towards our first stop which was the standard market to buy local crap. On the way up we passed a couple of Inka sites including 'sexy woman', the landscape was stunning as we worked our way though the Andes. After a quick stop at the market we proceeded to our first proper stop of Pisac. Here we were able to walk around the ruins and walked a little of the Inca trail. We would have liked more time there but we had to head off to another market. After another stop seeing the same crap we headed to our lunch stop.
Here we had an uninspiring traditional Peruvian buffet which included the biggest corn we had ever seen, although it didn't taste nice. We then headed to Ollantaytambo another site along the river on the way to Machu Pichu. This site was very impressive and set in between three mountains. This was an unfinished city and the guide explained how they built it and transported the stones to the site. It was a tough climb up the site but we got to see some great ruins and got good pictures.
We then left that site and headed to train station to take our train to Aguas Calientas. After picking up our tickets and waiting a while at the station we boarded the Inka rail train and set off on a winding route next the the river and through the mountain landscape. This was the only way up other than walking, as there was no road. The train took about 100 minutes to get to the station and on the way it started to rain which spoilt our view.
On arriving the station we were greeted and taken to our hostel which was right next to the bus stop for the morning bus to Machu Pichu. After checking in we were met by our rep who explained our schedule for the next day and gave us our tickets. We then headed for pizza at a restaurant he recommended and had a nice meal with Luka and Valentina which allowed us to get to know them better.
After the meal we picked up supplies for our trek, as there wouldn't be much available at the site and it would be expensive too.
We then headed off for bed at the early time of 9pm as we had an 5am start to try and catch the sunrise over Machu Pichu in the morning.
