After a good nights sleep thanks to the amazing silicon earplugs, we got a knock from Ellie (it was her birthday) who said they were going to take a drive down the coast to a small fishing village organised by Francis the hostel owner. We decided we would go too and after getting ready and having a quick breakfast we jumped in Francis's Land Rover and headed off down the coast.
It was a 60km drive south along the motorway. On the way we stopped at a roadside cafe that had huge ovens that cooked fresh bread stuffed with cheese. They were fresh hot and delicious.
After that quick stop we carried on to Pusucana which was a really small fishing village which was set in a picturesque bay with a small beach. Francis showed us his apartment where Ellie and Luke were staying for the night. It was nice and very traditional. After that we went for lunch at a local restaurant where we saw how the chef made the ceviche. It was again really nice followed by deep fried assorted seafood which was also fresh and delicious.
We then went for a walk round the town, where we went to the docks where the fish are unloaded and sorted. We got to try some flying fish roe which would be sent to Japan. After that Francis organised for us to go on a boat trip where we saw a lot of birds and sea lions close up and got some amazing pictures.
On our return we walked round town a little more going to the market where Shivani bought a very juicy mango. We then met back up with Francis who took us for a drive to the sulphur lakes, which had green water and the locals believed had healing properties. We then went to Yaya beach which was completed deserted. Francis drove us along the seafront before stopping to see the sunset. It was very beautiful and we took lots of pictures. We then drove back to Pusucana where we had dinner. I had a lovely whole fish in a stew and Shivani had a veggie feast. We then had some fried dessert thing that tasted like doughnuts and came with a lovely fig and honey sauce. By that time it was quite late so we said our goodbyes to Ellie and Luke and made our way back Lima. We were both knackered so went to bed knowing we had an early start to get on our flight to Cuzco.
