By far one of the highlights was Yoga for the girls at a local orphanage - Hogar de Ninas Madre Albertina. One of the things Reagan tried to arrange prior to leaving the US was a visit to an orphanage. Given language barriers, she struggled to get it arranged. When she told our new friend Marvin what she wanted to do, he arranged it with one phone call!
On Tuesday afternoon, our entire crew went to the Hogar to teach a yoga class. Approximately 12 girls, aged 13-17, joined in. Reagan was teacher, Colleen was videographer, Patrick was photographer, Colin was DJ, Mike was translator, and Hunter joined the class. It was an amazing experience!
We learned that as orphans, the girls have quite a bit of internal anger. They frequently have outbursts. The nun and psychologist who work at the orphanage shared that yoga is an ideal activity for them - helps them relax, and also strengthen their bodies.
The class went very well. At the end, I asked if anyone had any questions for Reagan. One girl raised her hand, and her question was simple - Can Reagan come back?
We adjusted our plans, and two days later went back for another yoga class. The girls were so appreciative - quick with a hug, quick with a smile. The time at the Hogar had an impact on all of us - including Patrick, Colin and Hunter.
Upon leaving the second time, we agreed that Reagan would create a special yoga video/class for the girls - so they can watch it and do yoga any time they want!
