One of the blessings in moving to Denver was the wonderful group of people whom I get to live with. My roommate, Naomi, posted on my seminary's housing forum that she needed a roommate. We talked a few times over the summer to see if we would be a good match. When I arrived in Denver, Naomi was still in Florida. My new neighbors saw me unpacking my car and came right over to introduce themselves. Rachel even let me borrow her air mattress for the first couple weeks until I bought a bed and it arrived. My other neighbor, Heidi (in the picture), is also my skill mentor for outdoor leadership. She has been a great friend and has pushed me out of my comfort zone as a mentor.
We have another neighbor who lives in our building, Eugene. Some of you may have seen references to him on Facebook. I honestly don't know him that well other than that he is divorced or separated. He leaves REALLY early for work which sometimes wakes Heidi and I up. Naomi and I laugh a lot because we always hear him sneeze, which means he probably hears our conversations as well. He also controls the heat in our apartment, a constant frustration this winter. Our building is really old so the units are linked together. At least we don't have to pay utilities!
All the ladies in our building get along really well, and we like to get together for dinner, movies, or church. We have had some lovely prayer times on the Sundays that it was too snowy to travel to church. Heidi organized a fondue party for us tonight. We had an artichoke dip, a beer cheese proscuitto fondue, and chocolate fondue. I also think it's funny that to make a margarita it takes three apartments: Naomi and I have the mix, Heidi has the tequila, and Rachel has the salt! It was a wonderful evening. I thought that giant bag of ice would be a great picture for today's word.
