Today was my last day in Edinburgh. I've had an absolutley great time here, I'm really glad I decided to come. I'll definitely be back for the comedy festival in the future.
I just spent the morning recovering from a hangover from last night so I had a big greasy breakfast at a place across the street from the hostel. I met Eldan there just as I was on to my third course of a sausage bacon and egg muffin. Yes, it was good.
After that we just started walking around town with no real destination in mind. We ended up going to the Scottish national gallery which was free and quite ordinary so we stayed for about 10 minutes. Then we walked around the christmas carnival for a while and then along Princes st which is the main shopping street in Edinburgh. We had a look in a couple of shops, i bought a couple of CDs and we went to a music shop as well where we both mucked around on a few instruments for a while. They even had a bamboo didgeridoo there. I got to have a bit of a play on piano again which was good.
From there we continued to wander aimlessly for about another hour before we realised that we had just basically walked around the outskirts of town to the other side of town.
So we ended up wandering around for a bit longer and then had dinner and a couple of drinks at a huge bistro/ pub style place. It was a pretty good for a cheapish meal.
At this point we decided to just go back to the hostel and get ready for the pub crawl. Yes, the same one as last week. But this week it was a bit more exciting because my flight out of Edinburgh is at about 6am so I'm going to just do the pub crawl, which finishes at 3am, and then go straight to the airport, which I know is a recipe for disaster. That's why at this point I just got packed completely so that even drunk I could work out how to just grab my bags and go.
Then I got changed in to some proper going out clothes and went out for the pub crawl. Eldan and Scott were going on it as well. The first place, The Royal Mile Pub was completely empty when we got there and then were only about 12 people on the pub crawl at this point. I ended up talking to Scott, Eldan and a middle aged lady from Aberdeen who was quite strange. I also had a quick chat to the people behind the bar there again.
The next place, called Wash Bar, was just OK. I met a couple aussie girls who Scott had been talking to, one of whom was an absolutely spinning image of Little Birdy. I also met a couple of older spanish guys and a bunch of other aussie guys that Scott had been talking to as well.
We then went to a place where they had £1 mixes. So I had a fair bit to drink there while talking to Scott's group in a little booth. That was good fun.
Then we went to Oz bar, the Australian bar, where I met even more aussie girls at the bar and around the pool table who were all really nice.
Then we went to Frankensteins again which was one of the clubs, that was just ok.
Then we went to the karaoke bar, where as soon as I got there I sang wonderwall which someone else had put on but I was just about to put it on anyway. So that was cool. It was really fun there actually.
Then we finished up at Sin again (the club). That was good fun. I was quite drunk by this stage and was dancing like it I think. But it was still really good fun. I was just going nuts dancing with pretty much whoever, but I met a few more nice girls there and danced with the others I'd met as well. So it was a good night. But as soon as it all finished up I went straight back to the hostel and grabbed my bags.
At this stage it was about 3:30am, so I checked out of the hostel and went straight to the bus stop. I'm really glad I packed earlier though because I'm sure I would have forgotten something if I did later.
I've been dividing days up by sleep rather than by time really so I'll continue the next part of the story on the next blog.
