Today was day 3 of my highlands bus tour so it was another early morning wake up.
Our first couple of stops today were at a couple of Glens, which is Gallic (old Scottish language) for valley, called Glen Shiel and Glen Garry. They were both really beautiful but it was extremely cold and there was a cold wind as well. There were actually little frozen puddles at all.
Next we went Commando Monument, which is a monument to all the soldiers who have died from a special highly trained unit called the Commandos. Apparently these guys trained in the highlands of Scotland. But there was also a great view of Britains biggest mountain, Bel Nevin. It wasn't actually all that big though.
After that, we went to another Glen called Glen coe. This one was really cool, we spent ages there.
We then just had a brief stop at a hairy coo enclosure which is just a big hairy cow.
But then we got to the main stop of the day, the Wallace Monument, dedicated to William Wallace. He was the guy that Mel Gibson plays in braveheart. It was also quite near Stirling castle as well so we got quite a good view of that. The monument itself was a big stone tour on top of a hill but inside there were heaps of different exhibitions about William Wallace which were quite cool.
After that was the long drive back to Edinburgh. It was a really cool experience I'm really glad I did it. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to go to Scotland.
We got back at about 5:30 so we had plenty of time to go out. So I organised with Eldan to go to a pub called the last drop to finally try haggis which actually pretty nice. There we met Kim and the sisters from WA and had a few drinks with them over dinner. Then we kicked on to a live music bar where there was just a guy with an accoustic guitar without a microphone playing celtic tunes. He was actually quite good. There we met Scott and had a couple of drinks with him and then went with him to another live music bar where there were quite a good blues band on, that reminded me a lot of Crow, Hazi and Nathaneal's band, except they play different kind of music. They were pretty good though. Then we all rapped up for the night and went back to the hostel.
