We woke on Wednesday morning to find a winter wonderland in Yosemite. We managed the drive out without chains and had to stop for a herd of deer crossing the road at one point! It was then on in the torrential rain to our next destination, Sequoia National Park. We went through some nice back roads in our drive an through the agricultural area of California. It was still raining pretty hard when we arrived so we set up camp in one of the lower campgrounds without snow.
Thankfully it was beautiful weather when we awoke this morning. Sequoia ranges from around 2000 feet to over 14000 with the highest peak in the lower 48. We drove up to over 6000 feet where they had received 19 inches of snow! When we left the campground in the morning we saw four stags right near us. We had to put chains on to get up, but we finally got there after having to wait for road works and got into the Sequoia Giant Forest, which was pretty unbelievable. We visited General Sherman, the largest tree by volume in the world and had fun walking around in the snow. All in all a great day!
