We've made it to America! Have just spent the past 5 days in Providence staying with my Uncle getting over jet lag and checking out a few sites. We've walked around the neighborhood we are staying where Brown University is situated, lovely old buildings. On Saturday we went to a Brown-Yale basketball game, Yale won, but it was a tight game.
On Sunday, Uncle Michael flew us out to Nantucket in his four seater plane, which was really neat. We could see all over Rhode Island and Massachusetts and went past Martha's Vineyard, before landing in Nantucket for brunch and flying home.
On Tuesday we headed off to Boston in the snow, where we did the Freedom Trail, a walking path through the city that goes past all the major sites associated with the American Revolution. We had New England Clam Chowder at the Quincy Market near Faneuil Hall. Unfortunately it started raining after lunch and the snow turned to mush, not very nice!! We finished the freedom trail though, walking through the Italian North End over the bridge to Bunker Hill. We next headed to Harvard and warmed up with a hot drink, but it was a bit hard to enjoy the sites with the weather!
Yesterday we drove down to Newport and drove around the coast there. There were the most amazing mansions ever. Most of them were built around the turn of the century and are very grand! After lunch in the old historic town we headed back and last night had a nice dinner with the whole family. It's now off to New York!
