Today is the day that we say goodbye to the amazing Koh Phi Phi. I'm sad to leave as it's such a nice place to stay. I would have a holiday home out there. Everything is so accessible and there are no roads, only footpaths. We packed together our backpacks and paid for the extra nights we stayed. I texted sara saying we are going to breakers but she hadn't replied so i assumed they were all asleep. It felt weird walking through the small streets with my big backpack and not dressed in my crotchet dress in bare feet. Sad, sad moment. I said goodbye to the little boutique on the corner of the path leading to the beach and woody and slinky bar. I took a last admirable look at the cute fluffy cats that i had stroked almost every day, i envied them, being able to chill out on the island not doing anything except sleep.
We sat down at a table at breakers and ordered our food. Sara had text me saying she will be here in around twenty minutes but daniel was starving so we ordered. I had an american breakfast with a hash brown and daniel got another full english. The girls came soon after and sat down at our table. They told me about what happened when i had left them last night which included smoking from a home made wooden bong with the fire show guys, i missed out. We stayed chilling at breakers until around 13:30 when they left us to go to the beach. We said our goodbyes and i will genuinely really miss all three of them, they were such good company but we will all meet up when we're back in England!
Dan and I ordered a drink at breakers as not to piss them off by just sitting there. I play more of the king hunt slicing game as it is addictive. It got to 14:40 when we paid and left to walk to the pier. I said bid farewell to the fat tabby cat always sleeping outside 7/eleven; i think it's because of the air conditioning because the black fluffy cat in the shop near our room always was laying down by the fridge. We got lots of pics on our walk to the pier as we didn't get many while we were there.
We boarded the boat which wasn't as busy as i thought it might be, dan and i had a whole row to ourselves which was nice as we could stretch out. It was sad to watch the island get smaller and more distant as the boat pulled away but i will definitely come back to phi phi as it really is a care free, lovely place to be. The journey took around 2 hours which got a bit tiring but i had my game to play on my ipad.
The water didn't look as clear as Koh Phi phi and the beaches were nowhere near as busy but i was trying to keep optimistic as we got off. We had to pay a 10 baht fee to help keep the island clean and we jumped into a retro blue and yellow side tuktuk which took us to our hotel: Lanta Island Resort. It was a 10 minute drive and we paid 100TB for it. As we went through the path on the entrance i saw loads of cats dotted around which got me excited as there were just SO many. We went to reception and paid the money for the room, the german lady on the desk said she has upgraded us to a bigger bungalow which was nice.
When paying i got confused about money and thought i had given her 2,000 which i'm still sure happened but daniel and the woman said it only gave her one. The thai lady took us to our bungalow a short walk from reception through a villa/jungle looking place with plenty of bungalows. I saw no other tourists anywhere in the hotel which made me think we must be the only guests, it's quiet season also which explains it. Our room was nice and big with a comfy double bed and nice bathroom. Once we settled in we sat outside for a smoke when the cutest cat approached us.
She had lots of colours on her fur, all splattered around differently. There was white, grey, brown and ginger and she only had one eye. We named her Tina and she was so cute as when she walks when you stroke her, her back legs walk on tip toes and she looks like a ballet dancer: Tina the ballerina. When it came to dinner time we didn't really know where to go as we were informed when we checked in at 16:00 that the restaurant was closed (i know!).
It was pitch black outside as there was no lighting around the plants or paths so i had to use the torch on my phone and we walked close together. On the paths were lots of weird crab things with massive shells walking around as well as cockroaches which made for an interesting battle to get to the entrance of the resort. We finally made our way out and got to the road, we had no idea where we were going so just started walking left scanning for places to eat.
Everywhere was dead, there was one nice looking place with red lanterns outside and an alfresco feel to it but we looked at the menu as saw it was pretty pricey and we can't afford many luxuries anymore so continued to walk up the road. We spied a cheap looking busy place accross the road without knowing what it was and sat down outside on the bamboo table and chairs. A man came and greeted us and we were expecting a menu until he tood us it was a bbq buffet. Daniel asked how much it cost and he pointed at the sign and said 169TB, we had found a little gem on an island we're not huge fans of.
He set up a grill and pan of hot water on our table as we went up to the buffet section( by this time we had moved indoors as it was about to pour it down). They had a big selection of meats such as garlic chicken, thin sliced beef, squid, shrimp, pork, bacon as well as other things i had no idea about. They also had the ingredients to make noodle soup so i grabbed a small bowl and began to add thin rice noodles, parsley, coriander, garlic, baby corn, Chinese cabbage, lime and chilli. We brought back to food to the table and placed it on the hot sizzling grill.
While we were waiting for the meat to cook i took a ladle and poured some of the hot water into my soup bowl. When i had a sip i had put far too much chilli and garlic inside which kind of ruined the taste, it's a shame i don't have a cold because that would have done the trick! We had to make sure we didn't mix up the cutlery for the raw chicken which got a bit confusing and we ended up with at least 4 forks on the table.
When the meat was ready we each plated up some rice to accompany it. I mainly ate the chicken as it tasted sooo good, as did the fish. I wasn't so keen on the beef so stocked up on the protein by putting lots of bits of chicken on to grill. Once i was all BBQ'd out (i also had another bowl of soup, this time with less spice) i went over to the dessert section. There were bowls full of colourful stuff which i thought at first was jelly but on closer inspection it was those weird gello things that the asian people drink with coconut milk and syrup. I put some of each colour into a small bowl and added some ice. When i had my first sip i was shocked at how sweet it was! The syrup was crazy sweet, sickly sweet even. The gello things were okay, unusual but fun to eat as they all feel and taste different.
I didn't finish it and was sugared out after a few spoonfuls. I did however visit the meat tray again for some more chicken. After that, we then got ice cream because i saw they had the rainbow coloured one i had wanted to try in koh phi phi. We went up to the freezer and daniel grabbed the scoop as we were unsure if we had to do it ourselves or if someone would do it for us. Soon after, a woman appeared and served us two scoops each of the rainbow ice cream which tasted like cornish cream ice cream. We paid the bill and then went to 7/eleven for some snacks.
We bought a banana cake and butter cake as Jenny was raving about them on koh phi phi, we also got harribo and crisps, as if we hadn't eaten enough!? We walked backed towards the hotel, being careful not to step on any creatures and as we were walking through the resort in the pitch black, there was a rustling in the bushes and i swear i heard footsteps which made me run pretty quickly towards the room. Tina the cat came to welcome us back and we switched on the air con, had a shower and relaxed until we fell asleep (after watching stuff on ipad, smoking and eating).
