We have to meet at the pier at 13:45 to get onto the boat for our day out so met the girls beforehand for breakfast at breakers. I ordered quite a big meal as did they others but we were able to warrant that decision by saying it was breakfast and lunch combined as i don't think we get food on the boat. Once we had all finished we walked towards to poer through all the roads that look the same but eventually got there.
It was busy with loads of people coming, going and advertising guesthouses and taxi boats. We wern't sure where abouts on the pier we were meant to head for so stood around for a while until asking a woman at tourist info who pointed us further down the beach. We walked for five minutes until we got to koh phi pho hospital and no pier. We were in the wrong place so walked back up to the pier and found a guy wearing a "relax bar" tshirt which is where they booked the trip from.
He directed us onto a big boat so we all jumped on one by one and paid the man the 500TB. We headed up to the top deck and there were already a few people sat there. As we waited, many more people got onto the boat that we thought there can't possibly be any more room for them. This is when small plastic stools were brought out for them to sit on. We were greeted by a young thai man with tattoos and a big messy fringe. It was kind of hard to understand his accent at times as he explained the itinerary for the day. First stop would be monkey beach so we can see the monkeys that live there, then go to a cave, then snorkelling in a lagoon before ending up on Maya bay where "the beach" was filmed.
Once the boat was packed full of people we set off on our journey to monkey beach which was only about three minutes from the pier. When we got there the tide was in so there was no beach or monkeys. This meant we couldn't get off the boat to the beach which was a bit sad as i was looking forward to seeing the wild monkeys but i guess s*** happens. We continued further around the island where we stopped outside the entrance to a cave where a few locals live who keep the park and cave clean. Outside the entrance were loads of sticks of bamboo used as steps and ladders so the men can get around. Sadly tourists are no longer allowed in the cave anymore but i can't remember the reason so we literally just looked at it from the outside.
The thai tour guide on the boat said that they collect birds nests and make soup and drinks out of it and that a small piece is worth a lot of money as thai people believe it to be very beneficial to the body. The boat pulled away from the cave and we continued the journey to the next stop; the lagoon.
There were so many people in the boat and not many snorkels so as dan, sara and i went down the steep steps to smoke we put aside a snorkel kit before they all get taken. There is also the option to kayack but none of us fancied it really.
On the bottom deck there was a group of arab looking men and sara was trying to figure out where they were from by the dialect they were speaking but we couldn't get it so she just asked them instead and they are from Bahrain but one of the guys lives in Malaysia. They seem like a friendly bunch. We stopped in a big lagoon along with a few other boats and let the anchor down. The rush of people getting downstairs begun and we all grabbed our snorkels. Daniel and sara managed to get some flippers as well. Me and the girls got into the water off the end of the boat while daniel decided to jump in off the top.
As soon as we got in we were surrounded by hundreds of yellow and blue fish, literally surrounded by them but no matter how hard you tried, you could never touch one, they must move very quickly. We swam and snorkelled in a group by the side of a limestone island and then to the small beach where we chilled for a bit. There was a swing hanging from a tree by the island also which would have made a good photo. We were in the sea for around an hour so decided to swim back to the boat and on the way i spied a thick, black eel creature on the sea bed and i just thought thank god i didn't accidentally step on it!
Once everyone had got back on the boat we stayed in the lagoon for a while until heading to maya bay: "the beach". When the boat pulled up into the lagoon there were two options, either get in a small dingy to take you to the ropey ladder onto land or swim, we all chose the latter. My god it was the most hilarious thing ever. There were just loads of heads swimming towards this haggered ladder made from rope and planks of wood and as we swam closer the rocks got bigger, the water got shallower and the current got stronger so there were echoes of people saying "ahhh! Ouch!" And jenny had me in hysterics as we kept getting stung by something while swimming to the ladder and she said in her yorkshire accent "summins got me foot! Or my gord!" It was soooo funny. We had to clamber carefully over the slipperly and sharp rocks as the current pushed us all forwards and then backwards until we finally got to the bottom of the ladder.
To get up you had to grip both sides of the rope firmly and take a giant leap as there were a few planks of wood missing to step on, once we got off that hurdle it was fine. Sara and Alex were waiting for us and we had to walk over small pebbles which hurt our feet as we didn't have any flip flops! The thai guy from the boat put all our cameras in a waterproof bag and brought them across for us. Once we had all got up the ladder we headed through the jungle on a clean sandy path to the other side- "Maya Bay".
When we stepped out onto the beach it was packed with people and boats lined up on the shore, which kind of ruined it a bit but that was expected. We all took the opportunity to take some photos of us all jumping and posey ones too. Alex refused to be in any photos and she hates them and says she's not photogenic which is a shame because she's really pretty and will regret not being in any photos when she's older but we managed to get some sneaky ones of her. I'm writing this on the boat to Koh Lanta and i miss all threw of them so much already, it was so nice to have them on the island and get to know them better!
Once we took a reasonable amount of photos we headed into the sea which looked really shallow so just ended up laying down near the sand. I tried to convince daniel to do diving in koh phi phi instead of koh tao so i have people i can see while he's busy and he said he would look into it, it's the perfect compromise. We didn't spend too long at Maya Bay and it definitely wasn't how it appeared in the film. It seems that they added more islands in the film to make it look more like an enclosed lagoon.
We all headed back through the jungle to get on the boat again but Sara and I decided not to take the ladder this time but go round the other way over the rocks and through a small cave like tunnel which probably wasn't any easier but i'd rather that than potentially falling off the ladder and onto the rocks below. We got back onto the boat and had a cup of hot lemon tea with a fag. The boys on the boat were in the kitchen preparing the fried rice for everyone and when it was brought up a man went straight to the pot to help himself to a portion which really angered me. How rude! OBVIOUSLY not british. The thai guy came up and told everyone to stay seated and that the food would be served to us (you tell him, girl!).
It was really nice, just fried rice with vegetables and egg with some cucumber on the side and there was plenty left over so Daniel helped himself to seconds AND thirds. By this time we had decided we would go out tonight when we get back. When we all finished the boat sailed off onto a spot in the sea where we watched the beautiful sun set behind the sea. The sky was pink and purple and it just looked so beautiful with the limestone islands as well. Before heading back we had to attach a small party boat "booze cruise" to our boat and tow them along back to koh phi phi. God knows what happened to their boat but it looked like the s***test booze cruise ever. The boat really wasn't big at all and the music wasn't that loud, not to mention the ratio of men to women, it was a sausage fest.
It was dark when we got back to koh Phi Phi and as we walked through the town to our rooms i passed a pharmacy selling fake longchamp bags for 490! They were 800 in Bangkok and they didn't even have the logo on it! I would Definately be coning back to purchase one. Sara was playing will a small baby outside a shop while Alex and Jenny got pancakes so i joined her. We must have looked so broody making baby noises and faces at this adorable bundle of joy in his mother's arms. We must have looked a little mad if i'm honest but these oriental babies are just too darn cute! We walked through the town stroking cats on the way as koh phi phi is littered with the furry felines. They are literally everywhere, all sorts as well. Loads of fluffy ones!
We each went back to our rooms and agreed to go to their room later on for pre drinks so before we went back i got a slice of pizza. Once we had showered and changed and done makeup we headed to the rock inn up to the girls room with a bottle of hong thong whiskey and some ice tea. We chilled on their bed for a while chatting and smoking. It got pretty late and it was raining so we waited until it had stopped to head out.
As soon as we got down the steps it began to rain again so we took shelter under a shop while daniel walked off saying we were being girls about it but he hasn't got hair to worry about. Sara followed him and then soon after so did they rest of us even though it was still raining. We ran to slinky bar under the shelter and ordered a drink. The music was blaring and there were loads of people dancing and so we joined them. We saw the arabs we met on the boat also on the dance floor so began dancing with them. We were all taking it in turns to wear their hats, a trillby and a ny snapback. It got so hot and i was sweating buckets. They offered to get us a drink but i declined out of politeness as their drinks aren't that cheap. We continued dancing around taking pics and making videos. We spotted a few weirdos including a weird aussie man who Alex had met before who would not leave us alone.
After a few hours of dancing and drinking we went to get a slice of pizza with the arabs. We were originally gonna head back once we finished but the plan changed to go back to slinky and dance some more. We went back for around an hour and a bit when i witnessed some one trying to steal my flip flops that i had left on the table while dancing. I spied a woman approach it and pick a few different ones up before picking mine up and walking away to which i stopped her and took them off of her. Stupid cow trying to take my havanas. Thank god i'm observant! We danced a little longer until we got tired and so said goodbye to the girls and made our way back to the room. Daniel was a state, he was soo drunk but not too drunk which was hilarious. We got in and pretty much fell asleep right away.
