Drove into the Black Forest from near Baden Baden, we were steadily climbing for what seemed miles. Then of course what goes up must come down! boy did we come down... A very steep winding decent that made the brakes so hot you could smell the burning. We were glad to reach the valley floor and even more so when we found a stellplatz in Durbach. €6/N + electric. Result the payment machine kept spitting out our coins so we put a note in the windscreen paid for the electric (different meter) and went tov the local weinfest. I'm beginning to think that the weinfests are purely a weekend excuse for a booze up. It appears that a different vintners have a weinfest to allow the locals to sample the produce, then they buy by the case. So we had a few glasses and retired to the van. I particularly liked the Durbach Chardonnay Spatlese Trocken, so rich smooth and friuty with a buttery finish, delicious. The next morning we visited the Durbacher Winzergenossonschaft a retail outlet for the local wine cooperative. Couldn't try any more as I was driving, but purchased a few bottles of Riesling and Chardonnay for home and the journey. Nearly forgot to mention we passed through the largest town square in Germany, Freudenstadt also boasts of a L shaped church, apparently to separate men and women? Now we're off to Alsace.
