The bus dropped us right outside a hotel and we decided to go in as we were both so tired and cranky.
We dropped our bags and went in search of food. The beach is about 2km away, and is nice apparently but as it was still quite windy we decided we'd try and find a hotel with a pool that we could sneak into.
I absolutely love Hoi An!! Its exactly how i expected Vietnam to be. Nha Trang was a bit busy and just felt like Thailand again. So i am so glad we are here!
The old town i Ho An is a Heritage site and so you have to pay to go into the museums etc. We paid our 3 pounds and set off. I wasnt very impressed. they havent really preserved the buildings that well, and most of them you can take the best pictures from outside anyway. The pass lasts 3 days but we had done it all in an hour and a half. So we did some shopping and went in search of a pool!
The Hoi An hotel is really near our hotel so we slipped in and acted as if we "fit in" That consisted of buying 5 glasses of wine and a packet of pringles, and then right at the end as we were just about the leave the lady came over from the bar and said "your not at this hotel are you?"
HOW DID SHE KNOW!
Anyway we went back the next day anyway picked up our free towel and got on a sunbed! I have peeled quite badly so my aim is to get an even tan by the time we get to Oz, where we are meeting Helen, Steven from University and Danni and Simon who already live out there but also went to uni with us!
When Gemma went to the bar to get a drink the barman said we couldnt use the pool as we weren't staying at the hotel, to which gemma's response was "well im not getting in the pool!" i dont think he understood but noone bothered us again. I always leave gem to the negotitaing as shes a bit cockier about it than me and doesnt mind sticking up for us both!
The food in Hoi An is absolutely gorgeous, we went out to the riverside to a bar called lounge and ordered a bottle of wine. We panicked a bit as after we had ordered I said 20,000 is very cheap for a bottle of wine (80p) and gem said no it was in dollars!! anbd i said what about the food because my chicken just said 85...and i cant remember if it was in dollars (70 pounds) or dong (3.50 pounds). Luckily the food was priced in Dong!!
We didnt really know where to go for a night out, as the guide book said treats bar was the place to be but it was empty (obviously things have changed since the book was published 3 yrs ago!) luckily as we were wandering round a Canadian guy stopped us and said "do you know where the bar is that gives out free rum and cokes??!" we said we didnt but we desperately wanted to know...as noone knew we decided to all go to before and then bar which is apparently the happening bar of 2009!! and then a bus comes to take you to the one bar on the beach, which is the only one open after midnight!
It was a great night (despite the lack of free rum and coke!) and the lads are from Toronto so maybe we will meet up with them again on our travels!
Sat in the reception of our hotel in Hoi An and just looked outside to see it is throwing it down. We are supposed to be going to Marble mountain this afternoon but Im not sure if that will happen now.
We leave first thing tomorrow for a place called Hue, which is about 3hrs away! Apparently the further north you head the worse the weather is. we wanted to go to Halong Bay right in the north which is supposed to be gorgeous but apparently feb- april is the worst time as it is really coludy and you might not even see the cliffs so because of that and lack of time we are just going to hanoi (Capital) and then into Laos!
