Arrived in Siem Reap at about 7pm so got some food and went straight to bed. Meg and Nic who we met on New Year told us about a decent hotel near Ankor Wat, so we got a room there (6 pounds). When we got into the centre the taxi driver had dropped us at a tuk tuk stand apparently he doesnt drive into the city which isnt true but it gave us a chance to get a tuk tuk driver sorted for taking us round angkor wat!
Woke up next day ready for a 9am start. Angkor wat is about 15 minutes away. When we arrived we bought a 3 day pass which is $40, but paid in reil to try and get rid of it. Went round most of the temples including the 2 big ones Ankor Wat (meaning city temple) and Ankor Thom. A young guy showed us round Ankor wat and then at the end said ïm in school you know, so if you want to give me $10 dollars thats ok? Or 1000 bhat (20 pounds) thats ok?"
We gave him about 4 pounds which is up to 3 days wages here!! I diodnt realise there was so many temples, and your tuk tuk driver comes with you and ferries you between them all.
We wanted to take some pictures of the Wat by sunset so arranged a later pickup the next day. That night we went for a meal on Pub Street and found a bar called Angkor What?? Drank too many cocktails (which are a pound and all 3 for 2) and then 2 bottles of wine, and ended up getting lost on the way home. But woke up safe and sound in bed and had managed to pay for most things in reil so had a lot less of that so it was good!! The hangover was not good!! Luckily it wasnt very hot that day but i did have to have a little lie down inside some of the temples.
Went out for a quick meal and booked our flight to Vietnam for the next day then straight to bed. the bus journey was going to be another 12hrs including another border crossing so we decided just to fly as our visa for vietnam expires on march 10th and we want to see quite a lot of places there, and had heard phom phen which is the other place we were going to in cambodia isnt that great!
