Picked up our Ford Escape from the Bellagio and headed for the Grand Canyon. Half way there we had a warning sign telling us the oil was running out. When we arrived i contacted the company who said "oh dont worry you have another 400 miles yet!" WEll yes Danny that would be fine if i wasnt travelling to San Fransico...so we are having to drive back to Vegas to sort it out before LA (we have to go back anyway as Gemma's contact lenses which we have been waiting for for a week arrived 2 hours after we left...typical...although i wont be telling the rental company that!) When we arrived we had a look round the South Rim and then went for food. I was very surprised how reasonable and good the food was. I had soup and Lasagna for $11. Got back into the room about 8pm and had absolutely nothing to do. God knows what we will do tomorrow after the Helicopter ride!
Helicopter ride was amazing, hopefully the pictures will do it justice...I didnt think we would be back till about 3 but we rolled up at 12...went in for lunch and ended up with the same waiter from breakfast. I had just ordered a tea and gem had a bagel but the first thing he said to us was "was my service not ok this morning?" aka where is my tip!!! I couldn't belive it. He hadnt even served my tea another lady had! I wanted to say something but didnt have the guts so just left a tip for lunch and left. We had 8hrs to kill until sunset. I think i played solitaire for about 4hrs. we were going to go on a little walk, but it was closed...then the sunset wasnt even that good!
We have definitely caught up on our sleep and given our livers a break since we have been here.
Left early the next morning to drive to Vegas. When we got to rental place the lady just gave us a brand new car with a full tank (Grand Cherokee Jeep). It is a lot bigger than the Ford but a lot nicer car to drive.
Arrived in LA about 9ish...The freeway is a bit scarier here than the empty roads between vegas and LA, but we survived and checked in. Not been in a hostel since Venice beach and it is a bit of a shock to the system. Scarlett is meeting us tomorrow and we are checking into a private room so that should be better. There are quite alot of our friends from the Kiwi bus here as well which is nice!
