Woke up and went on the Internet to try and catch up on things. Somehow spent 3 hours there and sorted out nothing. Then we went to try and find our way round Hollywood and a bar where we could have a quick drink, again a fruitless excercise. Scarlett was coming over about 4 so we bought a bottle of wine and champagne (as we missed her bday earlier in the month), and we sat on our balcony and drank and caught up.
That night we went to the Standard Hotel on Sunset Boulevard where they filmed the LA episodes of Sex and the City, had some pictures taken then went to a mexican restaraunt for tea. Rode on the rodeo Bull that is also in Sex and the City and then headed home.
The next day we headed for Santa Monica beach with a couple of girls who were on the Kiwi bus. We tried to find Manhattan beach but we had no idea where we were going even with the Sat Nav so we ended up at Santa Monica. That night we went to Hyde Bar as Scarlett knows a few people who work in La and they were able to get us on the guest list. It was anice night but everywhere in America closes at 2am and doesnt open till about 11pm so we didnt have that long. The next day we went to the beach again and just generally chilled out. Then we went for By one get one free maragritas at this really cool mexican bar...also had mexican again.
We had a shopping day the day after, went to the Beverly Centre and then to The Grove which is a gorgeous little area with some shops and the farmers market. Its looks like a tiny little film set. I bought a dress for the club we were going to that night as I literally only have one outfit for going out. Then we went to a nice Italian for lunch and I had my first American burger which was lovely!!
That night we went to a bar called Foxtails. Apparently there was a basketball player in there but i have no idea who he is and didnt see him.
Offended another American with our tipping. We ordered a glass of wine each and paid and the bar maid said "i know your new here but its customary to tip your waitress!"...Waitress...you hard pushed to be a waitress love, you handed us mild white wine, in plastic cups i might add, over a bar! Anyway we gave her a tip but it was deemed not enough and she went over to all the other "waitresses"/barmaids and told them not to serve us. So we had to give her more money.
I wish we hadnt as soon after we got invited to sit on a table and drank free vodka all night!!
The next day we got up and went souvineir shopping and also to all the usual sights, Hollywood Boulevard, the Hollywood Sign and the Beverly Wiltshire from Pretty Woman.
Me and Gem said goodbye to Scarlett and set off on Highway 101 to San Luis. Was an easy drive and got there about 8:30pm.
Ordered a italian which took 2 hours to arrive, when it finally got here they knocked some money off as it had taken so long, and we had a DVD to watch so it wasnt all bad!
Spent the next 4 days generally sunbathing. It is cloudy in the mornings so i actually went in the gym (shock horror) I only did an hour and i am still aching now.
Also had our haircut, that went ok, although my hairdresser wouldnt listen to me when i said i need my hair thinned out or else it will turn into a big helmet, but he apparently know better than me. He then flicked my hair out in some 40's style. I am washing it for the first time today so we shall see if i need to sue him!
Went for a BBQ one night at Bianca and Brians, a couple we met at Jays House party in Newport. Then they came over one evening and we all went in the hot tub which was nice!
Brian also pointed out that between LA and here we hadnt actually driven the official Pcaific Coast HIghway (which is historic route 101) and we had actiually driven the freeway. Luckily he gave us directions for San Fran and we were bby the sea a lot for most of the trip to San Luis so i am not too bothered!
Set off about 8:45am the next morning. It was a really nice drive. We had packed sandwiches so stopped at Ragged Point and ate them and then stopped at a few other places along the way to take pictures. We arrived in San Francisco bang on time to drop the car back at 4pm but then spent 20 minutes trying to find the car park. Anyway we got it dropped off fine with no poblems so we walked back to our hotel, and reheated the spag bol we had brought with us and had some salad, and then went on the Internet and had a slightly more productive session!
