Back in the beautiful city of Montevideo for an overnight stop. Today we went on a private trip to Punta del Este, which is Uruguay’s top resort. I was expecting something like Buzios and got Miami!
It’s about an 80 minute journey past some stunning beaches. We stopped at a couple of viewpoints for shots of Montevideo and saw where the sea comes into the River Plate. There is a white line, one side of which is blue and the other brown. On our return, the brown had mostly disappeared and so had the white line.
We also stopped at Punta Ballena, where the artist Carlos Paez Vilaro built a museum with no straight lines. There were good views of Punta del Este. After lunch we saw a lighthouse, church and the famous hand in the sand. Unfortunately, because of the crowds and the fact we had parked illegally, I didn’t get any good shots and most were missing the little finger!
We then drove both ways over an up and down, up and down curved bridge, that was like a fairground ride, before heading back to the ship.
A good steak dinner on shore in the evening.
