MeznG. In the air, on the road, river or sea again
After gloomy Scotland, we are greeted by a sunny day in Dublin, forecast s for some showers so we take the rain jackets just in case. This morning we go ashore and taken the hop on hop off bus to get a good look around. We have a tour in the arvo to the Guinness Storehouse. The bus commentary is live given by the bus driver who has a very Irish accent and fancies himself as a comedian. It is very entertaining. When we get off the bus we have a bit of a walk around the shopping area have a coffee and then head for the Temple Bar district in search if that iconic Irish Pub, running out of time we grab a quick lunch in another old bank building, formally the Belfast Bank Office. It's a very well preserved building with still many of the original features from its glory days. We get back to the pier to pick up our tour to he Guinness Storehouse. By now it is raining But luckily we are no longer on the topless bus! At the Guinness Storehouse we have a self guided tour of the brewing process, so we move through that very swiftly to get to the tasting part! Earlier at lunch I had tasted my first Guinness and even with a dash of black currant juice, I can't do it. My apologies to all the diehards but its not something that my taste buds enjoyed! All the more for Glenn and the rest of you. There is a tasting room on one of the levels but the destination everyone is heading for is the Gravity Bar which gives you a 360 degree view of Dublin while enjoying your pint of Guinness that was included in your entrance ticket. In all we spend 2 hours here before getting back on the bus to go back to the ship. We get dropped off back in the city to further explore. We have an all aboard time of 8pm tonight. Back in the Temple Bar district it is nice just wandering up and down the little streets and lane ways occasionally picking up the sound of a conversation between 2 Irish people. I love the accent! We pass the statue of Molly Malone ( cockles and muscles alive alive o) with her shiny ample brass breasts. Someone told someone who told someone that if you rub Molly's breasts it will bring you good luck........yeah right! Plenty of people have tested that theory by the look of them! We stop in at a pub called O'Neill's for a pint before getting the shuttle back to the ship. A Celtic band is the entertainment tonight as well as 4 young ladies doing Celtic dancing. The singers are great, sing a few well known Irish songs and tell a few stories and the dancers give a great demonstration. Dublin probably deserves more time before we really give an opinion, so it may need to go back on the list fr another visit. ,
