MeznG. In the air, on the road, river or sea again
Today is a self guided walking tour, and with Glenn in charge of the map, we could end up anywhere! When walking you see and observe so much more than by bus or boat. The only thing missing is the commentary. It's Sunday but its just as busy as Saturday. It's hard to tell who are the tourists and who are the locals. It's the Summer break so possibly many families are on holidays or maybe this is just a normal Sunday in the summer. Walking along the waterfront is beautiful. Its warm and sunny and people are sunning themselves and enjoying a drink or picnic. Amalienborg Palace is the winter home of the Danish Royal Family. It is 4 identical buildings built around a large Square. 4 separate families live in the 4 Palaces in the winter. A walk through one of the Palaces reveals its beauty and opulence. A short walk from the palace is the Marble Church. We find ourselves once again at the very busy Nyhavn where we have lunch at one of the many street cafes. Sitting watching the people is a fascinating pastime, people riding bikes, eating ice cream and simply enjoying the sunshine. The walk continues to Rosenborg Castle via the Kings Garden. Once again the garden is a busy place for families having picnics and playing games. Sun baking is also a very popular pastime and clothes are optional. No nakedness but underwear is not uncommon. Rosenborg Castle is a renaissance castle The castle was originally built as a country summerhouse in 1606 and is an example of Christian IV's many architectural projects. The Castle is home to the Crown Jewels. Our walk concludes at the Brewpub Microbrewery but to Glenn,s disappointment, it's closed on Sundays!!!
