Last nights hotel was situated at the bottom of a glacier. At least it looks like it's very close. However we went for a walk last night and it certainly didn't get any closer. From the outside our room looked like a block of prison cells but once inside we had great views? This is our last full day in Iceland and we are heading through to the Capital Reykjavik but have a few more stops along the way. How different can 2 days be! Today it's cold drizzly and grey....

Clear blue skies, no wind. Beautiful day. Glaciers, sheep, ponies, geese, waterfalls, ducks, icebergs, seals and ocean and more icebergs and its only 11am. Driving back to our hotel now, it's 4.30 and 19 degrees. Has been a sensational day. We even worked up a sweat climbing up to the Svartifoss waterfall in the Skaftafell National Park. For the most part of today's drive we have had glaciers on our right as we are going around the coastal side of the Vatnajökul...

We have driven only 30km so far this morning and I am already out of words. We are heading down the east coast today and our first stop is a little town Seydisfjördur at the top of the Fjord of the same name. The town is so pretty with its multicolored houses set against a backdrop of mountains and waterfalls. It's a 19th century village that started as a trading centre for foreign merchants, fishermen and whalers but mostly the Fjord is a rich source of herrin...

On the road again today. We leave Hotel Laxa at 8.45 after breakfast and today we head in a northerly direction to Húsavik, around the Tjörnes Peninsula to he Dettifoss Waterfall and Egilsstadir. Distance is around 150km but lots to see. Actually, I think it's the gravel roads and rugged driving that might slow us down. We arrive at Húsavik and it's raining quite steadily. 3 hour Whale watching tours go from this pretty fishing harbor but given the conditions ...

After the rain yesterday, we wake up to a beautiful sunny morning. Perfect for a day of exploring around Lake Mÿvatn. Not far from the hotel is Höfdi Promontory which reaches into the waters of the lake and is known for its interesting lava formations and rocky outcrops. The water in the lake is crystal clear.
