Namaste! We are in Mumbai and we are overwhelmed, and I believe we will be for the most part of our month here. Unlike any other place I have been, here you don't start your day thinking that there could be a new adventure awaiting, here, you know it is going to be an adventure. Everything is, negotiating a taxi fare, trying crossing the street, tasting a new food and waiting for the possible devastating consequences, taking a sip of water from a dodgy bottle, basically I love it.
Davide and I spent 2 nights in Mumbai and we only managed to see a teeny weeny bit of this enormous city. We were in Colaba, by the sea, a familiar area to any one that have read Shantaram. It's a fascinating city, you wonder what all those people do, how anything works, how there are not 4 car crashes a second, but it just works, the way it is, it's madness. Your ears will never ever rest, the continuous honking becomes the soundtrack to your sightseeing, bicycles, bikes, cars, trucks everyone, together in an 24 hrs long inharmonious symphony.
We just walked around and looked at the people, the alternating of beautiful historical building and slums, the cows chilling at street corners, the many street vendors, and the unbelievable traffic.
Two days, is enough, unless you have a local to take you around at night and live it up, but we didn't have one and we have a long and ambitious itinerary ahead of us.
Next stop: Udaipur in Rajasthan.
