Now this is what Davide and I wanted from our stay at Corbett Natural Reserve:
- staying inside the reserve, immersed in nature
- a luxury hotel for 3 days to spoil ourselves
- seeing tigers and many other animals
Easy! No?
But, we are in India so this is what we got in the first 60 minutes there:
- get off car where we had been for 5 hours a psycho driver
- enter the Reserve's booking office to find that:
- employees are out to lunch we have to wait in a typical Indian line
- agents are trying to get business to take us to other hotels
- the guy is back from lunch
- there was no availability to sleep in the park
- you can't book more than one night
- the only place we knew outside the Reserve would charge us an arm and a leg
- we trust 2 guys to show us some hotels outside the reserve (1 super expensive, 1 wouldn't pay them a commission so they said there were no rooms and 1 where we got a room)
- 10 minute at the hotel and we decide we both absolutely hate it!!! it's depressing, there is trash everywhere, we want out.
- we start walking on the main road and found the place we knew was expensive but went to see it and negotiated for a room
- Me: I check us in the luxury hotel in a lovely deluxe room. Davide: goes back to the hotel takes our bags and walks out
Finally we had 1 thing we wanted a lovely luxury hotel, next was seeing the tigers the next days. No such thing! We drove and drove in the reserve but other than elephants and monkeys, and a couple of deers we saw nothing. Well, we DID see a tiger paw print, but nothing else. Funny part is 2 days later we open the paper to find a big article about tigers at Corbett Reserve making a come back, the picture had a tiger splashing in the water! Damn!
Anyway, aside these things, we had a good time, we got to relax in a lovely place, eat good food, get a cold from the blasting A/C and prepare for our final destination: Delhi.
