Since we decided not to go all the way to Jaiselmer to see the desert we booked a 2 days trip into the Thar desert from Jodhpur.
We were sold:
-sand dunes
-beautiful sunsets
-camp under the star among the dune
-visits various villages
-and the possibility of a desert wedding which we kindly declined
Instead and not surprisingly things went a little differently. We were the only 2 people on the tour which was great and we had our own camel, we rode to the desert, to find that the sand dunes are very bushy with lots of treesand shrubs, not quite the Sahara, the air is very misty so no spectacular sunset either and we can't sleep in the desert as it's so bloody hot and windy we may disappear under the sand at night. So we stayed in this village with a local family and this was worth the money spent.
Mum, dad, 3 boys and a little girl, a lovely kind family that treated us like kings. They waited for us to eat first, staring, that was weird, they set our beds under the stars on their roof, the kids played with us all the time and some of them spoke the cutest broken English ever but we could communicate, it was amazing. There is so much more to the experience in the desert but it's too hard to summarise here.
We left after only one night under the scorching sun on a camel cart back to Jodhpur, a toilet, a shower and all sorts of other luxuries.
Next stop: Jaipur
