We had a nice early start today getting up and out by 6.45a.m. as we had a morning tour to the floating market booked. The tour company picked us up from our hotel and after an hour and a half drive in a minibus we arrived near Damnern Saduak Floating Market just outside of Bangkok.
To get to the floating market we had to jump in a long tailed speed boat. We paid 150baht (£3) each to go in a normal paddle boat up and down the market stalls lining the canal. It's a crazy environment where the sellers have hooks and hook your boat in to try and sell you various items with a chorus of 'hello you buy hello'. You also get other boats going past with people trying to sell you things, especially mango and ban-an-a. People were even cooking Thai food on the paddleboats!
We also had a walk round the stalls on land and Steph finally tried a coconut ice cream.
After six wonderfully crazy days in Bangkok, we have done everything we hoped to do there (and more) so we decided it was time to move on.
Lah gorn to Thailand, for now.
Deciding against a 14 hour bus journey, we booked an hour flight to Siem Reap in Cambodia, and here we are!
We booked a hostel which provides a free transfer from the airport. Booking it so last minute, we didn't expect a reply to our email. But when we stepped out of the airport after obtaining our visas, someone was waiting there with a sign for us. It couldn't have been more hassle free.
Cambodia is a shock after Thailand, everything seems to be less advanced. There aren't so many cars on the road and there aren't many street lights. The tuk-tuks here are simply a motorbike with a metal cart attached to the back. But everyone seems incredibly friendly.
We're looking forward to exploring the area tomorrow.
