After breakfast this morning we headed to Chatuchak market, the largest market in Thailand with more than 8,000 stalls. You can buy anything there from tiny bunnies dressed in costumes to size 10XL t-shirts to crocodile skin. It took us over three hours to explore a decent amount of the market, and although the puppies and kittens were very tempting, we just settled for a few souvenirs. There was a stall cooking fresh prawns the size your hands, so we tried the dish Tom Yam Kung for a lunchtime appetiser - very tasty.
Back on Ram Buttri road for lunch, we had our first Thai green curry since being here which was much spicier than at home! We also gave in and shared the first home food since being away from England - chips.
Next we jumped in a cab to Lumpinee Boxing stadium to watch a Muay Thai Boxing event. After a little bartering outside the front of the stadium, we got ringside seats just two rows back so we could hear every thud and get splattered throughout the event. We watched eight fights in total, each lasting half an hour.
At the beginning of each fight, the boxers do a little ritual dance/prayer to the same music. It's amazing watching the Thai people sat in tiers 1 and 2 bid on the fights - they all shout out their bids and wave their arms to no-one in particular. We have no idea how they keep track of the bids.
When a boxer makes a good move, the crowds make an almighty sound and the atmosphere was fantastic. The second match ended with a boxer being knocked out and stretchered off, much to Steph's dislike.
After the Thai boxing, we found a place sitting outside to get yet more food and watch the Chelsea game. Again, the food was lovely, shame about the football result.
It's now 00:10 and we've got an early start tomorrow. Hope you're all well.
