Sa-wat-dee everyone! So hopefully this is the first blog of many. From London Gatwick to Bangkok, we've arrived and checked in with no problems. We changed planes in Dubai and found a Shakeshack at the airport! The heat when you leave Bangkok airport is unbelievable.
Today we've explored the oh-so-famous Khao San Road which is about a five minute walk from our hotel. Nearby we tasted our first lot of street food (two meals of Massamam curry for less than £2!) and have started learning to cross the road without getting run over (which is actually quite tricky - I've taken to following the Thai people and using them as a shield).
As we walked around the city we were amazed by the amount of monuments to the King and wondered why on earth everyone was wearing yellow. We got chatting to a Thai person and found out that a ceremony lasting a few days began today in honour of the King's birthday and apparently it's a very special time to be here. We also took a dip in the swimming pool!
We're trying to stay awake as long as possible to get into the time zone so we'll start our proper sight seeing tomorrow.
Lah gorn,
