Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo it rained virtually all our Fraser island trip, how wet and gutted are we !!!!!!, let me fill you in:
Day 1: 6am wake up to rig our 4x4 out with food/camping gear/gallons of ale and so on !!, we then left the depot for the landing craft at Hervey bay to Fraser island, the weather was clear warm and perfect really !!!, there was 11 of us in total all revved up and eager for the trip, so we board the craft for 40 mins and arrive at Fraser island ready for our 2 night/3 day tour, we 1st headed for lake Birrabeen about 10 kms away and when we arrived it was amazing, the lake was so blue, sand so white and soft, blue sky's - PARADISE really, we all decided to take a dip, its all fresh water so you could even drink it if ya fancied, we spent about 1 hour here taking pics n chillin then headed for lake Boomanjin, it was the same clear blue waters etc etc, after a quick stop its off to find our camp site for the night, we left inland tracks for the big surf of the Pacific ocean and endless sand dunes, we passed the Maheno wreck which beached here about 50 years ago, its was an old World War 1 hospital boat then after the war it was a cruiser to and from New Zealand, after years at sea Japan bought the vessel and attempted to tow it all the way from Oz to Japan, it got as far as Fraser coast then snapped in bad weather then eventually beached on Fraser island and has been there ever since, we stopped to take some pics then off again to Koorooman beach camping for the night, we rigged our tents up then the girls made the finest spag-bol for all 11 of us (ding-dang-doo), we then started on the ale, we all chipped in for cans and goon, oohh the goon is some funky wine !!!!!, we got talking to some guys from Victoria who have fishing trips all over Oz, so we rocked with them the 1st night, they had the tunes playing, beers flowing so we mingled in with em', that was the 1st day really.
Day 2: After waking up pretty uncomfortable and rain to greet us all we made toast and jam brekkie, quick n easy so we can crack on with seeing as much as possible, we packed all our gear up then headed for Indian head which i was hoping would be the highlight of my trip, the tiger sharks are seen from Indian head virtually always and i was buzzing with the fact i might see some, even whales are seen from here, so about 30 mins driving from our camp site we arrived and trekked up the hill, still overcast n a little bit nippy but i rammbled up the hill in hope of seeing sharks, we finally got to the point and scanned the water but nothing was seen apart from a sea eagle which is impressive still, we stayed about 45 mins and no sharks/whales or dolphins where seen , i was gutted as we walked back down the hill, the views where fantastic thou and a clear day im sure it would be amazing. We drove back down the beach to Rainbow gorge, this is very similar to Rainbow beach its the coloured sands and formations, again still nice to see but we only stayed a short time, next on our itinerary was Eli creek, a stunning little valley to walk down and fresh water to drink - perfect, once again time was running low before it was dark, about 5pm, we all jumped into our scooby-doo-van and headed for a spot to camp, the menu tonight was BBQ with steaks, sausages, burgers, salads the works really !!!!!!, the girls took the reins again and we all decided on a game of footie on the beach with the lads from next door to us, it was class i aint played for ages, i banged a few in haha !!!. This was our last night on Fraser and we put the rain to one side and worked on the ale, there was loads of campers around us so we chilled with em all, ells was steaming that night, its normally me, after so long the sky's opened up and the rain pounded our little tents, we had rain sheets but they where crap !!!!, all our gear was wet the following morning.
Day 3: Last day on Fraser and a few hangovers about camp, we fired our tents away for the last time, sat our wet selfs in the 4x4 and drove back towards our ferry terminal, we decided on missing out lake Wabby but we all wanted to see lake MacKenzie, it was inland for about 30-40 mins, we finally arrived at our last stop, me anda few of the boys decided we wanted to swim even thou it was pouring down, lets roll !!!!, splash we went and belive it or not it was warm, we spent a short time here then cleaned our van up for the trip back, we where all gutted the weather was pants because the Island looks amazing even in the rain, we seen Dingo's all over, Goanna's chilling next to us, anyone who comes here will leave thinking how cool it is and if the weather is good even better, the experience of 4x4 driving inland and on the beach was a challenge which kept us on out toe's also, so you can see why its a world heritage site,
Were all back on the ferry heading home, wet and gutted about the weather but looking forward to a warm shower and chillin on a proper bed, we arrived back at Koala's late afternoon and checked all our kit in and that was our Fraser island trip.
Also me and ells done a shark dive at Hervey bay the day before Fraser island, it was quality, it cost us $30 each to swim with sharks, its the cheapest iv ever seen, the sharks where lemon sharks, there was also turtles, giant cod and many other sea creatures in the tank, its a family ran aquarium called Reefworld, anyone in Hervey bay should check it out, the guy and his wife are really nice people, i was nervous before slipping into the tank but as soon as the sharks and turtles where around me i was buzzing, i spent about 20 mins in the water with em', it was awsome, i got some pics which i will download soon, so its still raining here in Hervey bay, we are leaving at 9pm to where im not sure yet ????? but i have enjoyed my Fraser experience even thou i didn't see sharks or much sunshine lol, we have stayed with Koala's in Noosa and here and iv found them crap really, some of the staff are cool but its the odd few who are pants, personally if the trip wasn't booked through this company i would have choosen some other hostel rather that Koala's, im glad i aint staying with them in Airlie beach, iv just found the Koala hostels to be poorly ran.
I will fire some pics on soon dudes!!!!!!, see ya.
