Back again, so soon after the last couple of blogs but we know you all love it really!!
Yesterday we took a picnic down to the local beach, St Kilda's. It was almost empty & I couldn't understand why. The weather was good & it was the weekend. Didn't bother us though. The girls read their books while me & Ed kicked a footy about & pissed about with a frisbee. In the afternoon we all had a big sit down & chat about what we're gonna do during our two weeks in Dunedin. It was just the push start we needed & we decided that the following day we'd drive to the edge of the Otago Peninsula & back.
So that is what we did. We set off around midday towards the Albatross nesting grounds & info centre & made a few stops along the way for photo opportunities because the scenery was spectacular. Huge, rolling, green hillsides & a gorgeous inlet from the ocean.
When we arrived at the Albatross attraction, we discovered it was $40 each for a guided tour & to view the breeding grounds so being that we're travelling, opted not to hand over our hard earned!! Our luck was in though, as probably a dozen albatross (3 metre wingspan, so pretty big birds) were flying back & forth directly overhead. We stood at the cliff edge & spotted a handful of New Zealand fur seals on the rocks way below. First ones weve seen so that was cool. Then at the beach on the way out there were 4 more seals sunbathing on the rocks so we could get up close & take some pics!
On the way back along the coastal road we turned inland & headed for Sandfly Bay. It was so windy but beautiful.
Just headed home after that because we were all tired out by our first day of sight-seeing in a while!! Expect to hear from us soon, until then enjoy the pics! From both of us.
