19 January:
The jet boating was amazing, far better than we imagined it to be. For a start the jetboat, was a twin V8 700bhp jet propelled beast. It took us along the river, only 10cm deep in places at speeds of up to 90km/h. It was so good, the driver loved his job as well, which I think made it more fun, he was a risk taker!
The only other person on the boat with us 4, was Dot, a 65 year old woman from Newcastle. She was hilarious, originally planning to do a bungy, but got turned away due to spinal cord damage she suffered earlier in life. When we got back to the base, it turned out that she was on holiday with her brother & sister, 67 & 64 respectively. They both were doing a bungy jump & waited for her to come back from the jet boat ride. We stood & watched them jump & they were both fearless, jumping without needing to be asked twice!!
In the afternoon we drove up to the thermal pools that puts Hanmer Springs on the map. It was a really nice way to relax after being pumped full of adrenalin in the morning. Only problem being, was that every kid in NZ seemed to be there. It was heaving. We didnt hang around too long, still so much to do & see over the next few weeks. We sped back to Christchurch to get into a campsite & prepare ourselves for the main thing on everyone's mind at this moment in time: Liverpool v Everton. We asked around & the only place screening the match live, was the casino.
20 January:
We woke up early to get a good seat for the football, although at 9am we didnt really expect a full house in a casino!!
The best parts of the match were when we discovered that all non-alcoholic drinks were free & when the waiter asked us if we wanted free food because the person that ordered it had left! I had a chicken burger & chips, Ed got the full English. I was jealous but not complaining, free food is good food on our budget. Carly & Sara spent their time shopping in town! Again!
The afternoon turned into a bit of a ball ache, looking for a powerlead that hooks up to our vans when we stay at powered campsites. It took us pretty much the length & breadth of the city to find one but we got one in the end. The main reason we did, was the directions we got from a tattoo parlour were reliable. While we were in the tattoo parlour, I treated Carly to her first tattoo as an early birthday present for tomorrow. 3 stars starting at the base of her back upwards, each bigger than the last. It looks really nice & it was Carly's choice, no pressure from me whatsoever. Just wanna make that clear!
After the whole calamity in Christchurch we headed inland to Methven, a small but thriving town at the foot of Mount Cook. We picked a really quaint campground, with only a few sites. We used our new powerlead to charge all our electronics & watched a film in the back of Ed's van.
