Mary's Travels
We woke up somewhat early to go to Mass and scouts. We got to scouts and we helped set up tables at the community center, then went to Mass. The church was packed, but it was still a nice ceremony. The French don't hold hands during the Our Father, I learned, and they give kisses instead of shaking hands for the sign of peace. After church, we went back to the community center and helped with the picnic there. I met some of the scouts, and didn't understand much of their French until we started to help with camp preparations. They go to camp in August, and we checked everything to make sure it was up to par. The French was easier to understand, maybe because we were doing an activity together, and not just free-talking. The sun made it a little hot, and after a few hours, Jean came and picked us up. We came home to say hi to Lucy, Claire's big sister. She came home for a few hours- she lives in Paris. She was a sweetheart, and I was glad that I had the chance to meet her. After she left, we buckled down in preparation for dinner. Sarah's exchange family was coming over, and we went all out. There were starters when they got here, including Anne's famous avocado dip. It was delicious, no surprise. After that, us kids played badminton until we couldn't take the sun anymore and it was time for dinner. We began with a salad, then moved to the main course of duck. I didn't think I would like it, but it was one of the best meals I've ever had. It was served with cooked peaches and a fruity sauce- perfection. For dessert, there was an assortment of chocolate treats. Yum yum yum. We were stuffed, and Sarah, Claire and I moved upstairs to hang out and watch some TV. We had a lot of fun, but Sarah had to go. Laure went with them to sleepover with Marie, so it was just Claire and I. We ended up going to bed at one o'clock because we just talked and talked and talked. Lots of fun :)
