Mary's Travels
Today we had to get up "early"... 9:00. I ended up waking up at 7:30, so I decided I'd go ahead and take a shower to get it out of the way. Claire woke me up at 9:40. I opened the shudders and began my day. I went downstairs for a breakfast of pastries and hot chocolate again. Yum. Then we went to Claire's school to drop off more papers and then went into town again to see the castle. It was open this time, and Claire gave us a little tour since she is learning about restoring castles for scouts. It was very nice, and the weather wasn't too bad either. You could see all of Dourdan from the top. After that we went through the market. It's in the parking lot between the castle and the cathedral every Wednesday and Saturday. Lots of fresh food. Then we drove to the McDonald's in Dourdan. Apparently the head of French McDonald's (or McDo) wanted it to be healthier and French-ier. So there are baguettes, croque monsieurs, and potatoes as a choice of fries. It was good, I just had chicken nuggets and American fries. But they gave me a bottle of water- flat water (they had to ask). After lunch we went to where Laure rides horses. We met Sarah there and went shopping. In France, there are only two sales a year. One cannot put up a "soldes" sign any other time. Today was the first day of the sales; they last about three weeks. All the stores were going crazy, but we didn't buy too much. However, Laure and Marie (Sarah's girl) bought out half of Undiez. Claire, Sarah and I decided to get milkshakes instead of shopping. We got home at 7pm. We left the house at 10:30am! The day didn't seem that long, but I was worn out. We watched some TV while I uploaded pictures to my new USB until we got called down for dinner. We had an assortment of food for dinner, but of course I don't know the names. There was one that was goat cheese and such wrapped in a fried skin. Then there was a salty cheesy bread. Anne also made a yummy cucumber salad and Italian ham. For dessert we had an assortment of fruits, and I tried a fig for the first time. It was fun to eat, but didn't have much taste. After dinner we watch some more TV until we couldn't stay awake any longer.
