Mary's Travels
We woke up early to get ready to visit Versailles with Vanessa and Zoë, and made sure to eat a hearty breakfast of strawberry pie. After the forty minute car ride, we were a little tired (Vanessa even fell asleep), but walking on cobblestone for a bit can wake someone up. The château is closed on Mondays- something we didn't know. That was alright with me, since I had already experienced a tour throughout the building. So instead we explored the gardens. On my first visit, we only went through one, and I thought that was grand. I didn't know that there were mini-palaces throughout the landscape. We saw Marie Antoinette's little château and walked up and down the pond. For lunch, we grabbed some panini and had a waterside picnic. Absolutely beautiful. Afterwards, we tried to ride on a boat, but you had to be 18 (I was so close!). After that we walked around some more, hoping to find a place for ice cream, but gave up. We left the palace and wanted to explore the city itself, but everything seemed to be closed. Monday is not a good day for tourists in Versailles. So instead, we went back to Dourdan and went to the pool after stopping by Zoë's house to get swimsuits. The pool was very nice, yet very European. Swim trunks are not allowed. Apparently they're unsanitary. Claire and I had to borrow swimsuits, and they didn't quite fit perfectly. That, combined with the lack of swim trunks made for an outing where I thought I could live without pictures. But it was fun even when the sun didn't shine. After about an hour or so, we came home and hung out until Laure's friend Lucienne came over. We played Wii together until dinner time. For dinner we had veal and rice. It was très bien, and also beautifully presented. After helping clean up, we went upstairs and hung out until we fell asleep.
