Mary's Travels
Today I got to sleep in late... Till 9:30! Haven't gotten more than six hours of sleep in two weeks!! It was wonderful! I began the day by opening up my shudders and letting my hair flow in the soft wind that accompanied the beautiful yard, blue skies, sun and singing birds. It was a dream. Then I went down for a fresh breakfast from the local baker. I could not tell you the names of the foods, but there were many and they were delicious. After eating, we went to Claire's school to drop off some papers and went to see a castle afterwards. Unfortunately the castle was closed, but we did stop by Claire's church. It was built in the 1300s and was very beautiful. Then we stopped by the baker and picked up some desserts for after lunch. We came home and Anne made a delicious salad with smoked ham, tomatoes, peppers and goat cheese. After chowing down on our desserts (which by the way, were amazing), we went outside to enjoy some of the rare sunshine. It's cold here, much different than Rome so the sun was nice. But I did wear jeans and a coat borrowed from Claire the rest of the day. While outside, Anne got me a little notebook to write down french phrases. I learned I need to carry it wherever I go. After that I tried to get pictures off of my phone to clear up some storage, and that was only somewhat of a success considering the time it took. To help with dinner, Claire and I prepared the green beans while watching Anne's class perform Grease in English. It was very cute and funny. Then Laure came home and we played some wii and I finally won at something! She's very competitive... I like her a lot, she reminds me of myself. As it cooled down, the house warmed up with the smell of steak and green beans and eventually we had to stop our game to eat it. What a shame. Dinner was delicious, but different from Kansas steak. For dessert we had Anne's famous lemon merange pie. She said it didn't turn out great, but I thought it was still good. There was so much food that I filled up very quickly and couldn't eat it all. We retired our full bellies to the couch upstairs and watched TV until bedtime. A very relaxing day. Exactly what I needed.
