Mary's Travels
We arrived in a small airport outside of Brussels, yet the security was still really intense. I was definitely starting to get annoyed with all the security after taking six planes in the past week and a half. But I appreciate the safety. We had some trouble finding our carpooling driver, but eventually we made it through all the hurdles and got to the car. They were super nice and we're excited to speak English which was good so we could all understand. They were so so nice and interesting, and made sure that I knew that if I needed to stay somewhere for whatever reason, I could just call them. We were definitely back in Lille :) We went through the metro to get to the Airbnb, and arrived early so we waited at a park. We finally got in and realized we were not so fond of spiral staircases (well I knew that already haha). We made it though, and caught our breath for a moment before walking around town. We started with seeing school, luckily no security guards caught us haha. Then we made our way to downtown, taking the scenic route. We ate down there, showing off our Ch'ti cuisine :) After that we went to my apartment and hung out for a bit which was nice :) The next day we started at the Citadel and finally found the zoo which I really enjoyed. It's a free zoo in the Citadel park, so it's not massive but it was a good-sized zoo while still feeling cute. That was my first time there. Unfortunately Lille was being Lille and it started to get cold and rainy, so we headed downtown to eat. After that we took a bus tour to take some pressure off our feet and stay out of the rain. Then we probably walked around some more and headed off to eat again in Vieux Lille, last dinner :( They did say though that out of all the places we had gone, they like Lille's food the best ;) The next day we went to church at Sacre Cœur, a church I see every day but have never been to Mass in. I actually ended up going there the next week on my own, making it the first church I've gone to twice for Sunday Mass in Lille :) Whoo it's only the end of April, but I've had fun seeing Lille's various churches. We went to go eat after that, then shopped around for some chocolate yum! We went back to the apartment and relaxed and packed up and went to my place to drop off some things, then we began to head out. We got to the train station with plenty of time to spare, but ended up having to run to the train because they don't give a lot of time between when they tell you where it will be and when it actually leaves. But we made it, and we waved goodbye as the train left. It was sad to see them go, especially like that, it was like a movie haha, but I'm so so glad they could come and see my life. I had so much fun showing them around :)
