The weather is warm and sunny again as we get packed up and leave around 12:30 As we ae filling with water Ali chats to an Italian camper who is scrubbing his truffles and waxing lyrical about their taste. We really must try some sometime.
We get fuel just outside the site entrance and head towards Rijeka. The D8 carries on along the coast but as we head north the rock changes from grey to ginger. After lunch the clouds build and traffic gets busier. We see the bridge linking Krk island then join the dual carriageway around Rijeka where the rain gets heavier and heavier.
We arrive at the camperstop just after 16:00. It's a bit scruffy and now we are into high season it's relatively expensive. We plan our next few nights, but when Ali rings we are quoted €35+ per night so we look for alternatives in agri-tourism sites. The two Nicks fix a problem with Mary*Lou's indicators; a corroded terminal has made one side flash too quickly.
We have just finished our warm chicken salad dinner when there is a knock at the door. A young Scotswoman with a mutilated can of tuna wants to borrow a tin-opener. We get the tin open and give her a fresh can with a ring pull. A bit later Francesca returns with her mother, Tess, and tell us about their epic cycle ride along the ancient silk-road route from Shanghai, to end in Venice in a few days time, which Tess has recorded in a book of beautiful water-colours. www.silkroutecycle.tumblr.com
Our comfortable trundles around Europe in our motorhomes cannot compare with adventures like that.
The evening ends with a firework display over the nearby town of Opatija.
