Packed up quickly this morning as only had the minimal of caravan set up. Got on the road 8:45am, put $50 of diesal in the patrol and headed off on what we thought would be a short 3 hour drive. Wrong again!!!
It was so windy and slow going up and down and around mountains, it wasnt funny. Lucky the girls dont get car sick!!! Have concluded that mountain driving doesnt suit my stomach, was getting a bit squrmish by half way through, but luckily reading a book helped.
The trip, even though painfully slow going sometimes, was spectacular viewing. We drove thru national parks and forests and the countryside was amazing. NSW country is one of the best in terms of being pretty and glorious to look at. Even though hilly, it is beautiful.
Stopped for lunch at a small town, cant remember the name, under a huge tree and had a quick chat to a local bloke, bit rough but nice enough.
Finally arrived to Port Macquarie at 1pm where the rain has set in. It was fun to set up the caravan and awning in the rain, not!!! The girls had a ball, got drenched riding in the rain and playing in the puddles. The area under the awning is terrible, mud and wet everywhere!!! Even with our textured covered flooring down. Anyway, have had a look at weather forecast, and it is bleek. Rain for next 7-9 days with strong winds and thunderstorms. Hence, we are only planning on staying for 4 nights now instead of 7, as forecast in Byron Bay (our next destination) is scattered showers and 17oC, well the higher you go the better the weather right?? The plan for the next few days is catching up on the mountain of washing we have, starting Boo's distance schooling (which she has been hounding to start ever since school holidays began!!) and kicking back a bit. Might even take the girls to see Cars 2 at the cinema. Even as l am writing this blog, all l can hear is rain, rain and more rain.
Pity as the caravan park is right next to an inlet and we have water views. Had planned to kick back and do some fishing, but might have to wait until Byron Bay. Will wait and see l suppose,
