Day 4. Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
First proper day of motorcycling today. Headed 80 miles north on Route 15 (Hallowed Ground Historic Byway) to Gettysburg, passing through the state of Maryland. Felt like stepping back in time as the town was full of historic cars, which matched the historic buildings.
Had lunch at a traditional American diner, and then went to Gettysburg National Military Park. Went on two hour guided bus tour of the battlefield and learnt a lot about military tactics from our very enthusiastic and very American guide. This was followed by a film about the Civil War. Finally we went to see the Colorama - a 40ft high, 170ft long 360 degree oil painting of the battle - with sound and lighting used to tell the story. So, all in all, its been a very educational day.
From a motorcycling perspective, we are definitely the most over-dressed motorcyclists in town. Most other people aren't even wearing helmets, as its legal not to do so in Pennsylvania.
Staying at the Days Inn tonight.
