Before we set off for the short 70 mile journey to Vegas we went to Wall Mart to buy some food. It is amazing what you can buy in these superstores, checkout the hunting outfit with decoy (blog picture). Other stuff ranges from guns to foca detergent. We also took the opportunity of getting our hair cut here. Trying to describe what you want in Spanish (central America next stop) can be tricky as I found out in Equador once (without the picture of Ricky Martin I would have been stumped).
Vegas is in the dessert and being at only 1000ft is a bit on the warm side. Today it was 40 degrees C, but it is a dry heat so not so bad. We found a cheap motel that happend to have a swimming pool. We spent the afternoon having our first swim in America whilst listening to the constant noise of helicopters going to the Grand Canyon and the emergency vehicles with sirens blaring.
