We were actually up early for once as it was our last day in Melbourne and we wanted to make the most of it. We wandered into town and mooched around the lanes, in and out of the shops. We went to a shop where they sell Opals and we learned about the different types of Opal that you can buy and the varying values of them! We then did a odd jobs like changing money up for Fiji and NZ.
Then it was time to go on the Neighbours tour!! We couldn't come to Melbourne and not go! We could have done it ourselves but it was way out of town and hard to find, especially as it's not called Ramsey street in real life! We went on the mini bus to the street. It is an average street with only 6houses on it, and real people living in them! When we were there, there wasn't any filming but a security guard sits on the street to shoo away any unwanted guests! Neither of us watch Neighbours anymore, but we remembered it all from when we used to! The tour guide kept filling us in on gossip and what is going to happen, but none of it meant anything to us as we're not up to date! On the street we took lots of pics of the houses and also with the Ramsey street sign which the tour guides provide! We didn't hang around too long as today was the hottest day that we have had, 46'c!!! We then drove along and past Erinsborough high school which is actually an English language school, to the studios and where the airport/hospital/prison is and also past the shopping area. From there we went to St Kilda to meet one of the past actors. Dylan who was Stingrays brother came to meet us and we had photos, autographs and asked questions with him. He filled us in on yet more gossip that meant nothing to us! We were lucky, we weren't the only ones who didn't have a clue!!
From there we went back to town and back to the hostel to cool down! It was 46'c at 3pm, when you would expect it to be cooling down!
Once we had regained a normal temperature we went back into town and to Parliament house and for a walk through Fitzroy gardens. It was still unbelievably hot, and the wind didn't help as it too was so hot that it felt like a hair dryer was blowing in your face! We then went to call mummy as it is her birthday! While on the phone Mark got rather excited as he was sure that he had spotted Andy Murray (Tennis player) stood just up the street from us! I hadn't a clue who he was but Mark was adamant that it was him and it soon became clear that it was when other people started to notice him! The Australian Open starts here next week so he is obviously here adjusting to the heat by wearing a big jacket and jeans in today's temperatures!
From there we headed back to the hostel for cold showers. At 10pm it was still 30'c and was set to fall no lower than 27'c over night! EEK!!
We leave Melbourne tomorrow to head off to explore the Great Ocean Road. We both really like it here, perhaps more than Sydney! If only we could combine the two of them and it would be perfect!
