We expected it to be much busier in town, but it was the opposite and the tram was much quieter than normal! How odd! The weekends are much quieter here than at home!
Our original plan was to go to Government house and the gardens surrounding it but we missed the tram stop!! Instead, we got off at the next one and went to see St Patricks Cathedral as it looked like an impressive building from the tram! There was a service going on so we didn't go inside. From there we wandered along to the shopping precinct. It wasn't how we had expected, it was fairly run down and seemed like a poor area of the city. The further you walked along the better it got but we weren't particularly impressed!
We carried on from there towards the Carlton gardens. We sat and had lunch and chilled for a bit out of the sun. We walked around the gardens and saw the Royal Exhibition Building. The grounds were lovely to walk around and we relaxed with an ice-cream!
We were already having a chilled, lazy day so we decided to sit on the tram for a whole circuit to listen to the commentary as we had missed some of it! We got to the point which we knew well and decided to get off and go mooching in the 'lanes' near to the main shopping street. The lanes are just small side streets full of cafes and small shops. They are nice to just wander through! Mark managed to get his hair cut for a bargain price, but I ended up finishing it off around the edges! Hmmm!
We then spent the evening planning and booking hostels etc. We're now sorted right up until we arrive in Vietnam on Feb 19th (my birthday!).
