We woke to yet another amazing day in Montreal. The prognosis for a great drive through the Quebec countryside was a good one. It's not a long drive, three hours with a break for lunch - it was a real breeze for me on this leg. We stopped about 1:00 pm for lunch at Timmy's. Still can't understand why all the menus and advertising were strictly in French only - I really thought Canada was a billingual country.
We arrived at our hotel just after 3:00 p.m. - checked in, unloaded our bags and with loads of good light left in the dayt we headed off to Ile d'Orleans just some 35 kilometers east of Quebec City. It's a place I've known all my life but never ever visited. Yes, I've been to Quebec City several times but NEVER have I had the chance to visit the island. Growing up as a young boy, I had the coolest uncle ever, I always referred to him as G.O. (George). He was the type of guy that always wore hush puppy shoes, turtle neck sweaters and courdoroy pants. He was an artist, not just a regular artist, but a great artist. As a young man in the late 30's he often took his wife (Jessie) in his car to the island during the summer months to paint the homes, the people and the landscapes. I saw these on the wooden panels in his studio and always thought one day I would viisit.
Today was the day, we took the 30 minute drive from our hotel onto the island for the two-hour round trip from west to east and back. The hotel manager suggested that we should stop for dinner at a quaint restaurant in the Saint Pierre parish. Traversing north on Highway 368 was saw home after home that was so reminiscent of old Quebec residences, so cool.
Dinner was great at Cassis Monna & Files watching the sun set next to the mainland bridge. We've done great getting around, thanks in part to the GPS in our Infinity - What did they do in the old days ?
We're planning to spend the entire day in Old Quebec tomorrow. It'll be nice to watch the look on the faces of Ian & Wendy as they walk through the old streets from the 1700's. To those people who continue to read my blog - THANK YOU for spending your important personal time reading about our adventures and looking at my photos - I really appreciate it.
