Again, I've fallen down on things. The last update was from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and we've covered quite a bit of ground since then. We were up early to catch the 8:30 a.m. CAT Ferry from Yarmouth to Portland, Maine. It was a great crossing on a great vessel. It's fast (33 knots/hr) even with one of the starboard engines out. It can reach a top speed of about 45 knots or 51 miles per hour - that's very quick for a boat this size.
The crossing was about 6.5 hours and cost about $450.00 US for the car and the four of us, a little expensive but cheap in terms of the miles and time saved. From Portland to Boston it's about 2 hours and we travelled through Maine, New Hampshire and into Massachusetts. A little hungry we headed to the local Chili's restaurant for dinner and then made a quick return to the Boston Motel for the night.
We decided that drivers here in Massachusetts have to be the worst drivers in America and I decided that I didn't want any part of that plus all the traffic that we had endured just trying to get to a hotel. We found the local "T" station in Braintree, MA and caught the train downtown to the city center. At $12.00 for a round-trip ticket, this was a bargain.
We grabbed the local Hop-On/Hop-Off Bus and did the 2.5 hour circuit around the city. It was well worth the $36.00 each to see the city and all their great sites. A quick dinner near Quincy Market and we decided that we'd return home. I hope that you enjoy some of the pictures from the last couple of days - It's been fun. We have only seven (7) days left in this adventure so we're winding down and will be starting to head north to see if we can catch some of the fall colours.
Again, to those who have been following us, THANKS !
