Again, it is seeing cities like Tarragona that make me skip staying in bland big cities like Valencia where you could be anywhere in the world standing in them middle of that city. Not Tarragona. Founded in 215 BC this is "Roman" Spain. Ruins everywhere! I could actually live in this city and it now rests in my top 5. Lots of cool waterfront and the city sits on a hill overlooking the waterfront. I will look forward to sailing into this port somet...

Damn I just missed the 2007 Americas Cup, but the boats were still there. Valencia has nothing to offer as far as I am concerned. The city is not even focused around the water. The waterfront is pretty bland, but hey they did host the Americas cup. I am sure Valencia would have been fun then, but I will not put this place on the list to visit again. It was pretty funny riding around the boats etc, it was like someone just threw this huge party and then left....

Now cities like this is why I only spend the afternoon in cities like Madrid! Holy cow. Take a slice of pizza, dig two canyons on either side of the long sides and fill them with water. Now build a city on the slice of pizza with buildings hanging on both edges. This is Cuenca. Very impressive and a must see. Now see this is the sort of place most "backpackers" miss. Seeing cities like this is what traveling is all about!

Wow, what a hostel. I paid 9.50 and have my own room that looks like it is brand new! Am looking forward to seeing the sights tomorrow and heading into Madrid. Don't count on me staying in Madrid long. I have been saving up my money and days before Paris to spend in Valencia and Barcelona...cities by the sea...ahhhhh salt!
