I have heard about this Rock of Gibraltar and though okay at the end of the land there would be this big stone that I could climb on top of and get a picture! Maybe something the size of a bus, but a mountain!!! Very cool. But before Gibraltar, I toured Seville this morning and I am in love. What a super clean and fresh city. This is what I have been looking for in Spain. Finally a sign that I am in a civilized country. I would definitely make this a place to come back to. Amazing gardens and just a life about it. I decided to head straight for Gibraltar without stopping along the way. I wanted to get in early to have lunch and really just hang out. Boy I am glad I did that. I took the cable car to the top and walked and walked. As you all can tell from my previous pictures I love pictures from above and this was by far the best. Sorry Hilda cave hill was great the walk up was the best but this was the best view. There is something magical about the Med that I am drawn to. The moment I saw it coming from the hills my jaw just dropped...just hit me in the soul well that and the incredible wind. The wind funnels through the hills and bam. I could not believe it. I think Tarif is the windsurfing capital of the world. On every hill top there is a wind generator. After spending alot of time on the Rock I headed into the small town of Gibraltar. Gibraltar is owned by the UK and there is a very long cue to get through the boarder guards. After crossing the boarder as it were you literally drive across the runway. That's right! During WWII they loaded the sea full of rocks to build a runway. Because there is no room anywhere you just have to drive across it to get to the actual town. When a plane needs to land they just put road blocks up, the plane lands and then you drive again. Pretty cool to see. Be sure to look for it in the pictures. I think it is in the Guinness Book of Records too.The town reminds me of St. Thomas. Very sleazy and not nice at all. Even though everyone speaks English which was a nice change I did not feel at home and as soon as I came off the top of the rock I headed straight for the boarder. Plus sleeping on a rock that has millions of tons of munitions stored in 34 miles of tunnels in the rock itself is just not cool. Someone drops a match and boom there goes the entire spit of land! There is a tremendous amount of history about this little poke of land. The Spanish have wanted it forever, but the British have managed to hold on. And of course as only the British can do everything is way expensive and in pounds! It was an amazing hike around the top of the Rock, but I was glad to skip staying in the town.I headed for Malaga and found a great hostel and plan on taking it easy tonight and tomorrow before heading to Granada and Cordoba then a couple of nights in Madrid.
