We started the day with a bagel in the hotel but were left unsatisfied, so we headed to Tim Hortons for a donut- yum. From there we caught the subway to Battery Park where we jumped on the ferry which took us to Liberty Island to see the Statue of Liberty. We had prebooked a visit to the Crown of the statue as there are only a few tickets available daily and these are normally sold out up to 6 months in advance- so we were lucky to get some tickets. The first part that you get to is the pedestal which is quite an easy stair way up that most people could manage, but the next part up to the crown is 384 steps round a winded narrow staircase. Since Mandy is scared of heights it was quite an ordeal but we made it to the top!
Next it was a short boat ride to Ellis Island- the queue to get on these ferries was a nightmare but a necessary evil, we had a look around Ellis and then headed back to New York City for a quick beer before heading to Katz Deli which is in Lower East side and also where the film "Harry met Sally" famous scene was filmed. We had an amazing couple of sandwiches, then headed back to the hotel for a lie down!
After an excessive snooze we headed out to Hooters again for some more chicken wings, then finished the evening in a couple of Irish bars (think we have only saw 2 bars in the whole of NYC that are not Irish bars, and neither of them are anywhere near our hotel!)
