Lynda and Fred Travels
Well another exciting day! We got up early and downed a coffee and a piece of toast before heading to Paia...a small town that specialises in breakfasts and packed lunches for those brave enough to make the journey to Hana. Well we had a lovely breakfast and skipped the packed lunch hoping Hana would have some civilisation! The journey is the destination for this trip. It is 42 miles long with 56 one lane bridges and 617 hairpin turns. Very tropical, lots of nice views of the ocean and lots of waterfalls. We stopped at a black beach....in fact most are cause the lake or bay is from lava from the volcano...most of the area is lush rainforest and it rained quite a bit in the middle of the trip but was lovely and sunny in Hana. We went to Hana port and had lunch there....only lunch spots in Hana are vans selling BBQ or tacos...no restaurants as such..a few tourist shops and a general store....why people live there I don't know! Due to the volcanic lava falls you cannot get from Hana to west coast so you have to go back same way...took 3 hours there with 3 stops and 2 hours back...to Paia that is then an hour back home. We had coffee and a walk around the shops in Paia...my hands were numb from gripping so hard and my knee was killing me! Then we went back to Bubba's....we got our $25 back plus an extra $25 for my birthday! Lovely window seat again with sea air blowing in our face and splashing ocean on our feet! I had the prawn feast and Fred had ribs...absolutely delicious! We walked around Lahaina which is a highly touristy place and just buzzing at night! Back home we watched TV and news had on that a hurricane was coming to the island....I panicked and needless to say we did not sleep well...thought we may have to change our travel plans!
